In this course we seek to reconsider Deleuze’s theorizations of the body in the context of a few equally strange alternatives, especially some Asian conceptions of the body. We feel the presence of strangeness probably because we are used to some tacit cultural assumptions received from body-mind dualisms. By examining how Deleuzian and other dissenting positions work out the real connections between body and non-body, we look to place them in a comparative context and evaluate their effectiveness in helping us regain a sense of reading as embodied act.
